Why Do I Need a Coach?
In truth, nobody 'needs' a coach. Being needy or dependent is not what having a coach is about. Having a coach is a choice. It's a choice to give yourself every opportunity to be your best self and live your best life.
If Coaching is NOT therapy, mentoring, or consulting.......what is it??
Coaching draws on many of the same skills and methodologies that are used by other support professions. In coaching - as in all these other professions - we will talk, listen, question, strategize, and set goals.
Coaching deals with the present and the future. It is solution and action-oriented. We ask, 'What do you really WANT in your life and how can you help yourself get it?'. We look at who you are and what you're doing, and we figure out how to help you move forward. A coach will strategize with you, keep hold of your vision, and support all of your efforts - big and small.
What areas of my life can I work on with a coach?
Coaching can be beneficial in any number of situations. Here is a short list of some reasons why people hire a coach:
- If you're at a crossroads, have lost your passion, and can't figure out what to do next in your life.
- If you've lost your job, or if you're changing careers.
- If you want to improve your managerial skills or relate better at work.
- If you're newly married, newly divorced, looking for love, or stuck in an unsatisfying relationship.
- If you're a new mom - or an experienced mom! - and need support with all the juggling.
- If you want to find a better work/life balance, get organized, set priorities, do things with ease.
- If you're trying to lose weight, get healthy, stop smoking, eat better, or if you're dealing with a chronic health condition and would like support in being your own advocate.
Note: Situations involving depression, trauma, or unresolved issues from the past are generally not 'coachable' and would be best served in therapy or some other form of counseling.
How do I know if I should hire a coach?
Coaching is most effective when there is a gap between what you HAVE in your life and what you WANT. Additionally, you need to be ready and willing to be completely honest about yourself and your circumstances. You need to be ready to make changes and to explore new ways of doing things in your life. It may sound intimidating but, with the right coach in your corner, it can be incredibly exciting!
Can you give me a guarantee that my life will get better if I work with you?
Unfortunately, no - because your success depends on YOU. If my clients are not satisfied with our sessions, however, they may stop immediately. I do not ever try to keep anybody 'hooked in' to coaching, as that dynamic doesn't benefit either one of us. The most important element in the coaching relationship is the client's willingness to be coached.
Why does coaching take place on the telephone? Don't you need to see me face to face?
As a coach, my most important job is to LISTEN. The best way for me to do this is to remove all other distractions and tune in solely to your voice and your words. Clients tend to feel less self-conscious and more free to be honest, when they are not directly face to face with the coach. Practically speaking, conducting coaching sessions via telephone fits conveniently into most people's lives, as there is no travel-time and sessions can take place anywhere. That said, I am always willing to make arrangements if you would prefer to work face to face.
Can't I just talk to my friends when I have a problem? That's what friends are for, right?
Friends are a wonderful source of love and support, of course - and, if we're lucky, they also possess great wisdom. They are not, however, trained and certified in coaching. As your coach, I have no agenda and no expectations for reciprocity. My sole focus is YOU. I can hold you accountable in a way that your friends cannot, and I can provide insight and perspective that your friends might not be able to help you see. Enjoy your friendships for the gifts that they are - and use a coach to support you in moving your life forward in the way that you desire.
Do YOU have a coach??
Yes!! I choose to work with a coach several times a month. My coach keeps me focused on my goals, holds me to the commitments I have made to myself and my business, and challenges me to be my personal best. She is a valued source of encouragement and support. I know that I am accomplishing a lot more in my life with her on my team than I would have on my own. It's happening faster, too.
What is CrescentBridge?
Crescent and Bridge are the names of two yoga postures, which are each meant to open your heart and invigorate you. I combined them into one word to use as the name for my coaching practice because I thought it made a great metaphor for coaching!
